There will be a fitness session for adults (men and women) on Saturday 16 November starting at 3pm in Kilchoan Community Centre. The fee will be £5. The session is intended to give everyone who takes part a really good workout. Whatever your level of fitness you will be able to take part in, and benefit from the exercises. Please let Jac Crosbie know if you want to come. Her email address is: email@example.com
The instructor taking the class is André Tapadinhas. He was here in Kilchoan at the weekend taking a Karate class for the children. He will take another children’s class on Saturday 16 November, starting at 2pm. The fee for this class will also be £5. He is qualified, insured and has a current Disclosure. He already has several other classes for adults and children running in Acharacle and Strontian. Again, please let Jac Crosbie know if your children would like to join in.
Andre is keen to get enough people coming to classes in Kilchoan to make a regular trip (once or twice a month) worth his while. So, please spread the word, and encourage as many people as possible to come along on Saturday 16 November.
You might of noticed one of these invitations popping through your letter box in the last few days, they are being delivered to every house in West Ardnamurchan. We would be delighted if you could make it along to the Harvest Feast on November 1st at The Sonachan Hotel beginning at 7.30pm.
This will be the third annual Harvest Feast showcasing local seasonal produce. There will be a wide selection of meat and vegetable dishes on offer at the 3 course buffet meal. We currently have local vension, pork and salmon as meat dishes. Vegetarian kale lasange, potato dolphinousie, swiss chard toritta are just a few of the vegetable dishes. All the food is made with local produce and made by a folk from the local area. As many of the vegetables as possible are from the Community garden, which is situated on the road to the lighthouse opposite the Sonachan hotel.
The Garden raffle will be drawn at the Harvest Feast so there is still time to get your tickets. Raffle tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book and are currently on sale in various venues around Kilchoan. There are some fantastic prizes which include a trip for two on Staffa tours (www.staffatours.com), a 2 night stay in the Lochan shepards hut(www.thelochanshepherdshut.co.uk) , a 2 night stay in Ardnamurchan yurts (www.ardnamurchanyurts.co.uk), a bespoke leather belt made by John Chapple, a half hour massage by Clare Holohan, a meal for two in the Sonachan hotel (www.sonachan.com), a bottle of champagne, and the top prize a giant pumpkin grown in the Community garden to mention but a few!
The evening will begin with a three course sit down buffet meal. This will be followed by a family friendly quiz and the drawing of the raffle. We will then have some live music from local musicians and then later in the night a disco, so bring your dancing shoes!
If you would like to purchase a ticket, they are £15 for adults and free for children, you can do so in The Ferry Stores, The Sonachan Hotel or The Community Garden Stall. If you would like more information then please either email the garden on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone Dale on 510322 or Anna on 510392.
Below is the list of this year’s classes and workshops and a list of 10 x 1 day practical workshops, which I am running on behalf of the Scottish Crofting Federation
Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to book onto any of the classes on either of the lists. If you book into a class for which the dates are already arranged, I will take your booking and then contact you again a few days before the class is due to take place, with any extra information you might need. If you book into a class for which the dates are not yet arranged, I will let you know as soon as the date is fixed, so you can tell me if the date is suitable for you.
If you would like more detail about what is included in any of the crofting/rural skills workshops please get in touch, and I’ll also be happy to explain how you could end up paying only £40 to do up to 6 workshops (£14 if you are an SCF member) if you are eligible for ILA.
If there’s a course you want to do but it’s not happening in your area, please let me know, and if there is enough interest I will arrange it.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Learning Centre.
