West Ardnamurchan Show & Sports

This year’s West Ardnamurchan Show & Sports was another resounding success with large crowds packing Kilchoan Playing Field. The success of the day was largely due to the perfect weather conditions which surpassed all expectations. The day hadn’t started out as planned with a sea fog stopping the first ferry from Tobermory running; this in turn affected the start of the Agriculture Show as we waited for the Sheep Judge to arrive from Mull. However the delay didn’t affect the running of the event and only provided for a well supported and entertaining Show. Thanks this year go to Sis MacDougall from Tobermory who judged the competitions and commented on the high quality of the entrants.

The main events of the day ran like clockwork, largely due to the support of volunteers and the hard work of the Committee.

My thanks go to everyone who attended the Show & Sports and donated money so generously at the gate. A huge thanks also has to go to the large number of volunteers who make all the difference to the success of the Show, this includes: all those who prepared the Playing Field; everyone who assisted with the setting up of the Show Field; all those to assisted with the tidy-up and repacking operation; Marjorie and Dodi; competition Judges; Emergency Responders; Lynn Prewitt; Kilchoan Community Centre; BBQ & Bar helpers; all those who assisted with competitions & races throughout the day.

Lastly, a massive thanks to the Show Committee members, family and friends for their continued hard work and commitment.

A full list of all prizewinners is available for download here.

The annual Kilchoan Pram Race starts at 1.00pm tomorrow with the Junior event.  This starts outside the Ferry Stores and runs to the Kilchoan Hotel.  The Senior event starts at 1.30pm from the top of the Ormsaigbeg road, and ends at the Hotel.

Anyone who has a doctor's appointment in the Community Centre is warned that the Senior event isn't likely to finish much before 2.15pm, so it would be advisable to get to the surgery in plenty of time.

Missing Person

From Anna Wright

A friend of some friends of mine in Edinburgh has gone missing. She has been missing since the beginning of June. Her name is Yulia Solodyankina, age 22, a Physics student who would have had her graduation ceremony last week. She was last seen in Glasgow Buchanan bus station, and police are now thinking that her most likely destination from there was either Inverness or Fort William. They think that she may then of headed to the far west. Apparently it is totally out of character for her to do this, she told no one of where she was going, and her family and friends are extremely concerned. She did not take her wallet or phone with her.
